There are extensive collaborative investigative networks involving BWH and outside researchers that have produced important research initiatives. BWH serves as an AsthmaNet site, the Severe Asthma Research Program Network site (SARP), a COPDnet site, an IPFnet site, a LIPS-A and PETAL site for ARDS research. BWH is also the home for large program project grants in ARDS and COPD, multicenter clinical trials in IPF, LAM, sleep medicine, ICU medicine, and pulmonary hypertension.

The Channing Laboratory at BWH is a leader in genetic and epidemiologic research with physicians involved in study of COPD, asthma as well as other diseases. It is also the site of the internationally recognized Nurses’ Health Study. Fellows have the opportunity to pursue their research training at the Channing Laboratory that consists of a rigorous didactic curriculum at the Harvard School of Public Health. Channing investigators collaborate closely with basic science and translational investigators from across BWH and affiliated institutions. BWH and Channing attendings have developed the first Pulmonary Genetics Clinic in the country that will see referred patients for genetic evaluation and testing for lung ailments.
